Eduroam for students, employees, and visitors

Eduroam is AU’s wireless network for students, employees and visitors from other research and teaching institutions.

Installation of eduroam is important for the protection of your username and password when using AU's wifi.

Guide

  • Run the program, which can be downloaded from cat.eduroam.org, (Android program geteduroam Google Play)
  • Your user name is au<AUID>@uni.au.dk (ex: au123456@uni.au.dk )
  • Use the same password that you normally use on AU's systems or your AU webmail

To find your AU ID you need to log on to mit.au.dk

Step-by-Step guide

IOS devices

The images in this guide are from an iPhone with iOS version 9.3.2. On other devices and a later version of iOS the screen can look at little different. The screenshots are in Danish. 

Start by downloading the setup profile at cat.eduroam.org

  

2. Enter the password for your iPhone/iPad

 

3. Click Install

 

4. Click Install

 

5. Enter your username. Your username is au<AUID>@uni.au.dk (E.g. au123456@uni.au.dk)

 

6. Enter your password. Your password is the same as for mit.au.dk and your AU webmail

 

7. The installation is in progress

 

8. The installation is finish. Click OK

 

9. When this screen is displayed and eduroam is listed the installation was successful and completed

Windows devices

The images in this guide are from a PC with Windows 7. The guide is for Windows 7, 8 og 10.

Start download the setup program from cat.eduroam.org

 

1. Click Run to start the installation

 

2. Click Next to proceed

 

3. Click Ok to proceed

 

4. Enter your username. Your username is au<AUID>@uni.au.dk (E.g. au123456@uni.au.dk)

5. Enter your password and repeat it in the bottom field. Your password is the same as for mit.au.dk and your AU webmail

 

6. The installation is in progress

 

7. The installation is complete. Click Finish

Android devices

The images in this instruction are taken from an LG Android phone

Eduroam must not exist in network setup prior to the installation of the app linked below since it may cause an error.

Don't forget to delete any "eduroam" in network setup before you intall the app or use the app to change your username and password.

1. Click Select an institution..

2. Type Aarhus in the searchbar

3. Choose Aarhus University

4. Press Select a profile...

6. Enter your username. Your username is au<AUID>@uni.au.dk (E.g. au123456@uni.au.dk)

7. Enter your password. Your password is the same as for https://mitstudie.au.dk/ and your AU webmail

8. Press Connect to Network

9. Press Allow to automatically connect to eduroam from now on

10. Press Save

You should now be connected to eduroam

Mac devices

macOS Ventura 13.5 and older

Start by downloading the setup profile at https://cat.eduroam.org/

1.      Click on the blue button to download the program

2.     Press Allow to download eduroam

Go to Systempreferences

3. Find Profiles in the searchbar

4. Press on eduroam under Profiles

5. Press Install...

6. Press Continue to install the eduroam profile

7. Enter your AU-id as shown below (auXXXXXX@uni.au.dk)

8. Then your password (same as on mitstudie.au.dk)

9. Press Install

Installation of eduroam is now complete

macOS Big Sur 11.7.9 and older

Start by downloading the setup profile at https://cat.eduroam.org/

1.      Click on the blue button to download the program

2.     Open the file in your "downloads" folder

3.     Navigate to system preferences on your mac

4.     Go to "profiles"

5.      Click on install as shown below

6.      Click on continue installation

7.      Enter your AU-id (auXXXXXX@uni.au.dk) as shown below, followed by your password (same as used on mitstudie.au.dk

8.     Click on install as shown above

9.      A second confirmation is needed if the AU-Guest wifi is in use when installing eduroam

10.      Installation of eduroam is complete

For staff

If you are using a PC supplied by AU with Windows 10 or 11, you don’t need to install eduroam yourself. All you need to do is connect to eduroam and enter your user name and password as described below. The rest has already been set up for you.

  • Access control: 802.1X - PEAP/MSChapV2
  • Coverage: 80% of Aarhus Universitet
  • Auto setup: cat.eduroam.org
  • Eduroam heatmap for coverage (To zoom in on the map you need to double click. Do not zoom with the mousewheel or by using the "+" function on the map)

Terms and conditions

By using Aarhus University’s wireless network, you agree to comply with the rules in AU’s information security guide.

The university reserves the right to carry out scans of the net with a view to determine which computers are connected to it, and which services they use.

You must ensure that your computer has updated anti-virus software, and that all updates to the operating system and other security updates are installed.

You must not do anything that interferes with the operation of the wireless network. This includes using an unreasonably large percentage of the available bandwidth.

It is illegal and against university rules to copy or share films, music, software or other copyrighted material without the permission of the copyright holder.

Sanctions

  • AU IT may block or restrict your access to the wireless network or other IT services.        
  • Violation of the rules may lead to disciplinary sanctions. Any breaches under criminal law, the law of torts and other punishable offences will be reported to the police.
